Recruiter Specialist, Bradley Personnel INC, Greensboro
I’m a former social studies teacher in Guilford County Schools and Alamance-Burlington Schools. The skills I learned at the Speaking Center have helped me reach my goals and have given me an advantage in my professional life. From educator to sales, then in finance and administration and now recruiting, the communication skills I learned have been invaluable. They have allowed me to create lasting meaningful relationships with colleagues, coworkers, customers and clients.
My training in public speaking has allowed me to be emboldened in the workplace. I feel confident when engaging clients and I am able to great strong relationships. I find that I am a better communicator in general; I am more clear and concise and I know that is something greatly appreciated by all of my clients. My experience teaching and training, whether it was in a middle school classroom or giving workshops to a group of students at UNCG, has allowed me to also become an excellent presenter. Whether I’m presenting job or assignment information to a potential employee, or I am pitching a potential candidate to a client, I know that I am much more successful at handling clients who are more challenging or particular.
The interpersonal communication skills I learned from being a consultant at the Speaking Center have been the most valuable asset of all of my education at UNCG. This coupled with the analytical skills I learned from my History degree have allowed me to excel and achieve my goal of becoming a successful recruiter. I have a job where I can employ all the skills I learned at UNCG and the Speaking Center that allows me to help individuals improve their lives and reach their own personal goals. I doubt I would be as successful had I not been a communication consultant at the Speaking Center, with the careful and compassionate leadership and guidance of Kim Cuny!
