As part of our communication activism efforts, consultants helped citizens who wanted to address the Greensboro City Council during their weekly public meetings. Speakers have 3-5 minutes to address the Council on a particular community matter. This is an ongoing community engagement that our staff will continue to be a part of.
Consultants accepted an invitation to support IRC Guests as they participate in mock job interviews. Feedback and dialogue at the IRC focused upon the nonverbal presentation of self during job interviews.
Consultants facilitated weekly one-on-one conversation practice consultations for many Interlink students. This is an on-going project which supports the development of many nonverbal behaviors associated with interpersonal communication here in the USA. Consultants also held several interactive sessions in classrooms to provide students feedback on facilitating group discussions. Additionally, our workshop programming was extended to Interlink.
Consultants facilitated weekly one-on-one consultations with a BA student this summer. This is an on-going project which supports the development of many communication competencies in an effort to live a more independent life.
Consultants worked with students in the Middle College program organize and practice their oral presentations. These are students that are currently enrolled in Guilford County Schools that are taking courses, primarily medical and/or health related, that have the opportunity to earn up to two years of college credits.
Several consultants worked with current students at Dudley High School to help them create an elevator style speech or write a letter to the editor in the format of the elevator speech about an issue they stood for. Consultants also helped them to develop their voice so that each student would be confident in their words and be able to articulate their opinions to others.
As part of our instructional workshops, consultants facilitated a two part workshop for tutors in the Student Success Center at UNCG. The workshop focused on how to create and maintain a positive environment for tutoring and how tutors influence the learning environment through their verbal and non-verbal behaviors. This is an on-going collaboration between the different student support services on campus.
Consultants facilitated weekly consultations at the Glenwood Branch Library with members in the community who are learning English as a second language. Consultants facilitated activities to help people out their English speaking skills into action. This is an on-going project to support those of all ages in our community achieve their goals of learning English.
