I was hired as a School Social Worker because of the competencies I developed during my time as a consultant at the speaking center. Those competencies were evident during the interview process. I had to answer questions from a panel of 13 people during the interview. Through out the interview I used eye contact all around the room, monitored my voice/tone level, used appropriate hand gestures, and utilize my group communication skills in ways that gave me an edge over other applicants.

Now that I have a school social worker position, I engage in interpersonal and group communication with students, families, and staff members daily. I leverage my own oral communication competencies when advocating for students and families, on a macro, mezzo, and micro levels. I use ALL the competencies I developed at the Speaking Center everyday in my current career and throughout life. SPEAKING CENTER IS AWESOME!!
