The University Speaking Center provides UNCG staff with consultation support and instructional workshop services. Our support is designed to help speakers further develop their own oral communication confidence and competence. We provide feedback, guidance, and other support in the areas of public speaking preparation and delivery, interpersonal communication, and group or team communication.
Most UNCG staff come to us for support in getting ready to give a public presentation, whether it’s for their workplace, community, social events, or preparing to address the UNCG Staff Senate. We work with staff to organize, prepare, and practice their presentations. We also help with PowerPoint & Prezi integration, we view previously recorded speeches to help identify areas for further development, and work with speakers looking to control speaking anxiety.
Some staff take advantage of our support for Non-Native Speakers of English. Staff groups can also request our instructional workshops.
When working with speakers, our plan is to meet them where they are. We have no particular expectations of preparedness.
The Speaking Center is located along with the Writing Center in 3211 MHRA. We are on the third floor. MHRA is on the corner of Forest and Spring Garden – diagonally across the street from the Mossman Building.
